Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
